Why is rap considered music?

I'm a Brit pop fan e.g. Oasis and Blur but some people I know like Eminem, Kanye west etc and I think its just awful. Rap isn't singing its either someone talking quickly or some auto tuned nonsense ,and I wonder why people like it.
