How often do you need to sharpen and wax ski's ?

I got my ski's sharpened and waxed a few years ago for a big ski trip, and it was cancelled. It has been a few years and I haven't used them, should I take them in before I hit the mountain again? or is the last wax and sharpen good because they were never used.
